Volunteering is the exchange of experiences, a collective effort and common interest in supporting the greater good of our Calgary communities. Our volunteer program makes HIV Community Link the incredible organization that it is today, achieving our vision of empowering choices, engaging communities, and ending transmission. Current Opportunities:

1. Walk with us in the Calgary Pride Parade

We are currently seeking energetic volunteers to walk alongside our float at Calgary Pride 2019.
When: Sunday, September 1st from 10am-130pm
Role: This is a low key opportunity that will solely ask for participants to build up the energy of the crowd by showing their support, walking alongside and passing along harm reduction materials.
Also, we are looking for 2 volunteers to assist with setup and tear down of the HIVCL information booth during Pride in the Park Festival.

2. Event Volunteers for RISE: a social commentary with two legendary voices of the LGBTQ+ movement
In honour of this year’s Calgary Pride Festival, Twisted Element has partnered with HIV Community Link to bring two incredible guest speakers, as well as some local voices, for a night of social commentary.
Date: Wednesday, August 28th, from 6-10pm
Roles: greeting and registration, ticket sales, and set up/ tear down.

3. Calgary AIDS Walk & Run
We are currently seeking volunteers for various shifts/ positions to help bring together a successful execution of the 25th annual Calgary AIDS Walk & Run.
Date: Sunday, September 22nd
Location: Eau Claire Plaza
Roles: include, but are not limited to: greeters, registration, set up and tear down, water distribution, route direction and cleanup crew.
Shifts: Vary, starting at 9:30 am-3pm

4. Shift Evening Outreach: Support the delivery of evening outreach to individuals involved in street-based and high-vulnerability sex work. Read the description here.

5. Peer Advisory Committee Member: Be a part of essential input on the planning, implementation and evaluation of our Peer Support Programs. Read the description here.

Ongoing Opportunities:

Condom Packing – If you’re looking for a fun and simple way to give back to HIV Community Link you can join us for our monthly Volunteer Activity Night! Join us on the last Wednesday of every month at our Calgary office starting at 5pm. You’ll help us pack our condom packs which are distributed across the city in bars, community centres, and at special events to promote safer sex and provide information on testing options in Calgary!

Events – HIV Community Link holds many events throughout the year that need the helping hands of volunteers to help with the success of the project. Get involved with our upcoming Calgary AIDS Walk & Run fundraiser!

Host a Fundraiser – Whether you want to host a potluck, a special event, office fundraiser, bottle drive or holiday gathering, we’re happy to provide you with the right materials and support to ensure your event is a success!

Office Support – There are many administrative tasks that you can help us complete. From filling in at reception to data entry, we could always use helping hands around the office.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with HIV Community Link! Getting involved begins with an application. From there, we check your interests and contact you directly to ensure we can match you to the volunteer opportunity that best fits with your interests and schedule. Once we have made contact, we provide education and training opportunities that cover HIV and related topics, stigma and current statistics.
